2021 Juneteenth Liberation Libation

June 2021 -> On June 19, 2021 TRUTH, RACIAL HEALING & TRANSFORMATION (TRHT) and COMMUNITY RENEWAL SOCIETY (CRS) presented “Juneteenth Liberation Libation: A Call for Racial Healing & Solidarity.” Juneteenth Liberation Libation serves as a call to solidarity. It is our hope to support and amplify unity, dialogue and intercultural work between Black and Brown communities of the Greater Chicago area and beyond.

In the spirit of Juneteenth, Liberation Libation is a concert of love. We invited transformation through music, spoken word, collective narratives and defiant hope for justice and liberation for all. Honoring our ancestral freedom fighters, we united in the spirit of healing, love and respect for our roots.

JUNETEENTH

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of legalized slavery in the United States. Although Abraham Lincoln gave the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, the beginning of the end of legal enslavement would not be recognized until June 19, 1865. Traditionally, the commemoration of Juneteenth promotes unity within the African American diaspora: a love for our culture and respect for our heritage.

Solidarity Heals

is a cross sector, community-driven process to plan for and bring about transformational and sustainable change and to address the historic and contemporary effects of racism.
