Course: Introduction to Racial Healing Methodologies

City Colleges of Chicago has partnered with Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Greater Chicago to offer “Introduction to Racial Healing Methodologies” a course designed to engage students in the TRHT Framework and Racial Healing Circle methodologies. Racial Healing Methodology is an adaptation of the globally recognized Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) concept. The course trains, empowers and emboldens students to become apprentice racial healing practitioners to facilitate racial healing circles in Chicago communities.

Course Objectives:  

  • Provide students with a historical framework of the social work profession, professional ethics  and its relevance to current social work practice. Emphasizing the historic and contemporary consequences of adhering to the fallacy of a racial hierarchy.
  • Create a format to convey to students the basic skills of a social worker and facilitate an understanding of how they are related to working with people in small groups .
  • Educate and train  participants on TRHT practices and methodologies.  Providing  opportunities to engage with perceived others in ways that enable self-reflection and nonthreatening acknowledgment of one’s own previously unquestioned assumptions and biases.
